Avatar Hype

What's the deal with this movie? I mean for the 10+ years "fans" have been waiting for it, it didn't really blow me away except for the 3d. And even that, I kinda forgot it was 3d about 30mins into it when my eyes gave up trying to adjust from the front row. I just saw an article saying people have become suicidal after watching it cause they know they will never "be apart of that world". http://www.wwtdd.com/2010/01/avatar-is-making-people-suicidal/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+wwtdd%2Fatom+%28What+Would+Tyler+Durden+Do%3F%29&utm_content=Google+Reader

At first I thought that was a joke, but I guess its real. It was pretty real looking, but the environments aka shiny jungle with super trees, were nothing special considering what older movies have come up with. How bout that lil flick called the Matrix? Dream world where you can instantly upload data into your brain, jump over small buildings and break the laws of physics all day. Or even Neverland, you can freakin fly and no one ages... sounds like a sweet deal to me. But a glittery mass of vegetation with giant blue Indians is what drives people to deep depression when the film ends? I'm gonna assume its the nerdy star wars'esk fans that are quoted in the articles, cause if it's some normal people who just really liked the movie, then they have some serious psychological issues to deal with.

I guess the new 3d camera he used was pretty sweet, but not really mind blowing. I could understand all the excitement if the plot had a single ounce of originality, but it didn't. It copied, almost verbatim, the story of Pocahontas. Don't believe that? Check out the script here... http://web.me.com/pascalboogaert/Site/foto3.html . All this may sound like I seriously hated the movie, which isn't true. It was pretty good, just not world record sales good or "lets hype it up for 10+ years" good. Certainly not Titanic good (Cameron's last big movie) Anyone who saw have any other views on it?

Post-grad: the real life version

Hey guys,

I hope you all had a goooood christmas/new years! i know mine was pretty low key (wrote a research paper til midnight on new years eve- fun fun). I was home for a while, but am now back in montreal pretty much trying to rough it. I am applying to graduate school at McGill and everything is due Feb 1st for my department- scary. So I have returned to talk with professors and the school, get all my paperwork together, etc. I am also hoping to find some research work with a professor to stay involved with the department and gain experience in my field of study. So far, no luck, since most profs try to take advantage of work study during the school year.. but in the least I am hoping to do some field work in the arctic over the summer with a prof I know. Everything is really up in the air as to the immediate and near future, which is causing me quite a bit of angst haha. But I guess this is what life after graduation is like? I can't seem to get rid of my apartment so I am kind of roughing it right now, and praying I find some sort of work soon so I don't end up owing my parents for rent! Worse comes to worse, I will prob go back to CP, look for a job and save but it just seems silly to have an apartment here and be working/living somewhere else. So for now I am determined to make this work lol. We will see if this actually lasts...

Not much else to update on. Rob, if you know of anyone looking to hire, LET ME KNOW haha. My roommate and I are both sort of in the same unemployed-applying-for-grad-school boat. At least I am not going through it alone! We are planning on going to free French classes in order to make ourselves more hire-able lol.

Hope you are all doing well, if you feel like visiting me up North I have quite a bit of spare time and would love to see you :-).

LOST- oooOOOooo

Any of you guys as pumped as me to start the final season?! I spend most of my time at work reading the different theories online by fans (most of which is just stupid gibberish from stupid people). I posted my own theories and a bunch of people agreed with (cause im the man) and added their own opinions. Its not as fun not knowing the people you're discussing with though. So if you guys have any theories hit it up and lets compare and debate.
For those of you not caught up, AHEM you know who you are, GET ON IT! Time is running out. The first episode is Feb 2nd, aka very soon.

For those who haven't seen the show before, check out the first season, its a freaking sticky, thangled up ball of confusion for anyone to come into the series this late. But I highly suggest checking it out. Just go to http://www.ninjavideo.net/cat/90 , if you don't know about this site then you probably haven't seen/talked to me much in the past 2 years so shame on you.

Old people have christmas parties at work.

So the only thing remotely interesting that has happened at work recently was the christmas party at the executive mansion. It was a pretty good time and I got to talk to the Governor for a few minutes. He remembered who I was when I introduced myself and mentioned a specific event at which we had spoken. So that was pretty cool. Needless to say, this entry is just an excuse to post a picture of me and the Governor. There's another picture that I'm not posting because it is just awful... I look ridiculous and awkward while the Governor is talking to me so he's not looking at the camera. This picture is better, even though neither of us are looking at the camera.

Light at the end of the tunnel

I wish I had an exciting video update, those are my new favorite kinds. I kind of feel like I've been up against a firing squad though, so just imagine my life a little bit like Kellen's only on the other end of the gun. And with less fresh air.

Property final was Friday, a 7 hour long exam consisting of three essays. Next is Contracts, which is the scariest one, on Wednesday. I've been studying and studying but I don't think there is any way to go into a Contracts exam feeling confident, so I'm trying to settle for calm. After Contracts I only have Torts next Monday. That night we're having a big end of the first semester celebration, which will be very welcome. I (for some reason I still haven't really worked out) set up a mock interview with my Career Services Office the next day, Tues. the 22nd, but after that I'll be on my way back to CP for Christmas! So everyone who will be home on Tuesday, I should be high on life, so it would be a good time to hang out if I can stay awake past 9 pm.

Anyone else who is also working on finals right now, good luck! Hopefully you're done before I am. Dragging out three finals for 14 whole days is brutal, I hope your schedules are better. See everyone soon!

Video Update

My old roommate Ian (in the same unit as me for training) shot this video during one of our operations last week.
This is a good example of what we did for the past week, day and night.
I catch a flight home from St. Louis and arrive in Albany at 8 PM on December 19th,
so I will see you all soon.

Sorry for no updates!

Hi friends! so I am still living in CP for the next few years at the least (I figure if mom and dad don't make me pay rent then I shall live for free). Which is lovely because working two jobs doesn't leave much time to enjoy actually being at home. I am still at Freihofers and Borders for the time being but hopefully by January (or whenever the state passes their budget) I will be working in Albany at ZLS publishing creating book covers and illustrating children's books. It is the perfect job and I cannot wait to start. I am one of their first hires so I am lucky to have this position. And it also means I get to work one job from 9-5 Monday-Friday. What will I do with all this free time?! I'm pumped! Other than that not much else is new. I am just working all the time and when I'm not working I'm up in Ballston Spa at my boyfriend's apt or hanging with Suzy. nothing too exciting. I just bought three computers from Best Buy so I am giving the laptop to my parents (I figure if I'm living for free then spending money on them is allowable lol) And I bought a new digital camera so once I buy a memory card I will definitely update with pictures :) So when everyone is home please let me know because I am around (but probably working!) And CAT AND GREG--- I am hoping to come visit soon because Stephen's best friend goes to school in Hartford! (came to this realization the other night yay!) Ok I love you all and I will try to be better with updating! xoxo Nicki
